ALD founder Teddy Santis has kept Technics SL-1200s in his home, his office, and his stores for years, so the collaboration arrives with credible provenance. The SL-1200M7ALD takes the MK7’s proven coreless direct-drive motor, S-shaped aluminium tonearm, and two-layer platter, then wraps the chassis in ALD’s signature Mulberry Green with bespoke gold-branded accents throughout. A co-branded slip mat ships with it.
The underlying hardware is unchanged from the standard MK7. Quartz-locked speed accuracy, high torque for quick startup, and pitch adjustment up to plus or minus sixteen percent are all present. The premium over the stock unit is $800 and is paid entirely for presentation. That is a fair description of what you are buying and, for the right person, entirely the point.
