The Microlight Alpine has been a fixture in Rab’s line since they understood what a packable down jacket actually needs to do. The core brief has not changed much: fill it with high-quality down, wrap it in a windproof fabric light enough not to defeat the purpose, and cut it with a hood that works over a helmet. The 2024 version does all of this with 700-fill RDS-certified recycled hydrophobic down, micro and nano baffle construction, and a recycled polyamide shell that packs into its own chest pocket.

The fit is designed for layering over midlayers without restricting movement — useful at the crag, sufficient for the summit approach. The hood is helmet-compatible and has a single-handed drawcord. Handwarmer pockets are insulated. The hem drops slightly at the back to avoid riding up when you reach.

In Beluga — a warm grey-white — it is versatile across city and mountain uses without looking like either is the afterthought. Ten colour options available at full price; the argument for buying it now rather than at the end of season sale is fit and sizing availability.
