Most domestic filter machines brew at around 80°C. Moccamaster brews at 92 to 96°C, which is the temperature required to extract properly. The KBGV Select adds variable flow rate to the original KBGV, letting you adjust the speed the water moves through the grounds. Slow brew for light roasts. Standard for everything else.
The hot plate holds 80°C for 40 minutes, then cuts out. The carafe is thermal glass with a thumb-operated pour lid. The machine itself is made in Amerongen, Netherlands, assembled by hand, and designed to be serviced rather than replaced. Technivorm has sold essentially the same object since 1969 with incremental improvements to brew temperature control.
Available in fifteen colours including Polished Silver, Matte Black, Off-White, and a specific shade of turquoise that photographs well and looks better in person. Five-year manufacturer warranty. This is the sensible end of coffee equipment.
