The destro configuration - crown on the left, pushing against convention - tells you something about Ming from the start. Founded in 2017 in Kuala Lumpur by Ming Thein and a small team of designers and collectors, the independent brand has built a reputation for watches that look unlike anything from Switzerland’s established houses. The 57.04 Phoenix is their return to monopusher chronography: 40mm, a deep-dished dial with radial cutouts revealing a proprietary multiphasic colour-shifting coating below, a case requiring nine separate components for the lugs alone. The movement is Sellita-derived, tuned for single-pusher operation. Production is limited to 150 pieces - the inaugural 57.03 Iris sold out completely at 100.

At CHF 6,250, the Phoenix sits in territory occupied by minor complications from the Swiss majors. It’s making a different argument: restraint and geometry over brand heritage. The destro crown as considered difference rather than novelty.
