Jung Jae-il composed the music for Bong Joon Ho’s Okja (2017) and Parasite (2019). He has described the Mickey 17 score as the closest to his personal musical taste of anything he’s made - a useful distinction, given how precisely he tailored those previous works to their films’ moods. Mickey 17 stars Robert Pattinson as an “expendable” worker sent to colonise an ice planet, a premise that gave Jung room to move between intimate chamber passages and something considerably darker. The score was developed over three years and recorded at Abbey Road in London, Teldex Studio in Berlin, and Rottenbiller in Budapest. The film didn’t find the mainstream audience it deserved on first release, which makes the soundtrack a better entry point than the usual order of things. Vinyl arrives May 2025 via Waxwork Records - the format it was built for.
