Gabriel Tan, the Singapore-based designer Louis Poulsen named Designer of the Year 2025, designed the Rumee around a single premise: a lamp that belongs to its user rather than a room. The broad, wavy form - a hat brim rendered in recycled plastic - is IP44-rated, meaning it moves between terrace and kitchen counter without hesitation. The LED and battery are both replaceable, extending the product beyond the standard disposable lifecycle.

Two modes are built in: a tilted directional beam for reading and a 360-degree ambient diffusion via integrated diffuser. That combination is rarely found in a portable object of this size. Available in white, warm grey, and blue. Louis Poulsen has been treating light as an architectural material since 1874; the Rumee is the argument that the discipline doesn’t require a wall socket.
