The About A Chair is one of those designs that earns its ubiquity. Hee Welling conceived it for HAY in 2010 and it has barely changed since, because it didn’t need to. The AAC 22 is the version with armrests and a solid wood four-leg base, which shifts the mood from stacking-room utility toward something more considered.

The shell is moulded from 100% post-consumer recycled polypropylene - mostly reclaimed household appliance waste - which gives it a slightly matte, textured surface that reads as premium rather than cheap. It is light at under 4kg, and it still stacks, which matters if you have guests or limited storage.

The proportions are what make it work anywhere. Narrow enough to not dominate a small dining room, structured enough to hold its own beside heavier furniture. The Slate Blue colourway in particular photographs beautifully but it earns its keep in person too - a colour that reads as neutral in some lights and clearly blue in others.

At £254, it sits at the lower end of what serious Danish furniture costs, and well below comparable chairs from Muuto or Fritz Hansen. If you are furnishing a dining table and want something that holds up to daily use without feeling like a compromise, this is a strong choice.
