The DT 770 Pro has been in production since 1985. Beyerdynamic still makes it in their Heilbronn factory in Germany. The design hasn’t changed in any meaningful way because it doesn’t need to.
The 80 ohm version drives adequately from a laptop or phone without an amplifier, though an outboard DAC improves things noticeably. Closed-back construction means external noise is suppressed and sound doesn’t bleed outward. The frequency response is flat enough for mixing and coloured enough for extended listening without fatigue. Bass extends further than most headphones in this price bracket. Highs are detailed, occasionally bright on certain recordings, which is useful for catching problems in a mix.
The headband velvet and ear pad foam wear out over years of use. Beyerdynamic sells replacements directly. This is a headphone you maintain rather than replace.
At £133 from Thomann, there is nothing more capable for the price.
