The Beta AR is not Arc’teryx’s lightest jacket or its most feature-rich. It is their most useful. AR stands for All Round - the brief was a single shell capable of everything from Scottish winter climbing to spring ridge walking - and after decades in production it has earned that description.

The 2025 version uses GORE-TEX Pro with the new ePE membrane, which is both more waterproof and more environmentally coherent than the previous PFAS-based laminate. The difference in performance is marginal in most conditions, but GORE-TEX Pro at any generation means you are not getting wet. The seam tape is fully bonded. The pit zips are long enough to actually ventilate. The hood adjusts with one hand and fits over a helmet without bunching.

Cut is trim without being restrictive. Pockets are placed above a harness waist belt. The hem has a single-handed adjustment. These are choices made by people who have worn this jacket in the field, not decisions made for catalogue photos.

At £600 it requires commitment. What you get is a jacket that will outlast multiple cheaper alternatives and perform better in conditions that matter. The Olive Moss colourway for SS25 is understated enough to work off the hill too.
